Our walls need to look just as beautiful as the furniture held within them, but where and how to hang art can feel a bit overwhelming. Here's a simple guide to help you out.Hanging on an empty wall
For a single work
When you're hanging one art piece on a clean slate, a wall without furniture or other pieces, aim to hang your art so that the midpoint of it hangs 56-60 inches from the floor. The exact measurement should depend on your ceiling height, as well as where your personal eye level falls, to create maximum flow from space to space and interest that feels balanced.
For two smaller works
When stacking two pieces one on top of the other, the 56-60 inch rule still applies; however, this measurement should now span from the floor to the middle of the space between the two artworks. Art over furniture
When hanging art above a bed or console, start at the bottom of the furniture piece and measure up 4-8 inches. This is where the bottom of your frame should sit. Ideally, your art piece should extend about 2/3 of the width of your furniture item. If you don’t have a piece that size, you can try a grouping of pieces to achieve the same composition.
Gallery walls
One of our favourite ways to achieve an intentional wall arrangement is through a curated gallery wall. This type of art grouping can hang in any space, big or small, and can be compiled of just about anything! But each gallery wall should be purposeful in style and balance.
Location First, consider where you would like your gallery wall to hang. Knowing the size of the space you have to work with can then help decide how many pieces can hang in this grouping. If some of your art pieces are too small, the frame designs can add to the overall width or height of your art to help achieve a balanced look.
Content
Photos, memorabilia, paintings, textiles, literally everything and anything can hang in your gallery wall, and custom framing can help tie them all together for a cohesive look. An electric vibe might mean different styles of frames, but all with a similar tone. If you prefer a modern gallery wall, it might consist of black frames with extra-wide mats in white or a series of clean-lined metallics.
If you would rather not hang your own art, our experts can come to you for a consultation to help you determine where to hang artworks or how your groupings should come together. Hang the pieces for you or even help curate the content! Our goal is to show you why life is better framed, so reach out now!
