The colder days have set in and we are in full seasonal transition. With this change come some tweaks to our space. We want our homes to feel comfortable and cozy. To step into winter, we have a few tips that will help you embrace that cozy feeling. Lived-in look
That 'lived-in home' aesthetic is inviting and welcomes guests to comfortably gather in your space.
An eclectic gallery-wall helps achieve this look. Whether it be a collection of souvenirs from past trips, a mix of favourite photos and mirrors or a grouping of paintings, select frames that at first impression appear mis-matched, but have subtle details that tie them all together, making for a cohesive design. Add warmth
It goes without saying that adding warmth to your decor during these long cold months is a must. A great way to do this is to incorporate a selection of wood and/or leather frames. A small addition of a framed family portrait to an end table or a selection of different frame heights adorning a mantle, piano top or credenza, add a beautiful array of warmth.
Lighting
The soft glow of a well positioned light brings all the 'cozy'. Look for small, unexpected and otherwise bare spots in your home to add a wall sconce. Anchor the sconce by hanging a single framed piece under it. As another option, hang your artwork above a structure and add a table lamp so that it sits to the side of your artwork for a polished set.
Layers
There's just something about layering! You can't go wrong with adding a few extra pieces to bring depth into your space. Simply lean a small piece of art on a kitchen shelf, stack a grouping of family photos on an entrance table or tv stand or lean a smaller framed piece over a larger hanging work.
