When it comes to framing, it's easy to underestimate how much the right design can elevate an image.
Neutral-toned artwork offers a calming, timeless aesthetic and can often be found in vintage finds and with the right custom frame, it can become a truly standout piece. The secret lies in the details: thoughtful materials, layered textures, and balanced contrasts. Here are our pro tips.
Two-toned moulding: subtle contrast, big impact
This stunning charcoal was not displayed to it's fullest glory and appeared outdated in a wide, red mat. We decided to eliminate the matting altogether and focus on a beautiful moulding for the frame design. A custom frame with a matte black face and natural wood side adds instant sophistication. The black front defines the artwork with a crisp edge, while the exposed wood introduces a hint of organic warmth. It’s the perfect harmony of modern and classic.
Metallic inner frame: touch of luxury
We kept the metallic inner moulding, but resized it to fit around the art directly. Adding an element of gold, silver, or bronze in a frame design adds a layer of elegance. This subtle accent reflects light and draws attention to the image without overwhelming it. The sloped profile draws the viewer’s gaze inward, guiding attention directly to the artwork.
Custom details = elevated design
Beveled edges, carved accents, and layered details all contribute to a polished and curated look. These custom touches bring out the texture and tone in neutral imagery, helping the artwork feel truly finished and elevated.
A neutral image may seem simple, but paired with the right frame, it becomes art with presence. Custom framing turns subtle into stunning.
