Stacking is a custom framing technique that is used to add height and width to a price or grandeur and importance.
It's a way to incorporate texture and colour as well, which is exactly why we stacked two stunning mouldings to create one frame design for this vintage painting.
What is stacking?
Essentially we combine a few mouldings that either transition seamlessly or that contrast to make a singular statement frame. Our favourite paintings or items don't always spatially work within the intended hanging wall, so we add the missing inches through framing.
This trick of the trade not only creates the right sizing, but is an opportunity to add design details and interest through combined textures, colours and finishes. The vintage painting
Our client brought in an antique canvas painting that needed life and colour.
We chose two mouldings to accomplish this aesthetic; one in a vibrant red and the other in a bright gold.
The distressed finishes on the moulding compliment the piece while the red and gold pull from the subtle tones in the painting to accentuate them and add that layer of brightness the client wanted.
