The tile project from Portugal

Tiles are gorgeous! The details, textures and colour feel unique and authentic making them the perfect addition to any space!

​But we're not talking about tiling your back wall. We are talking about turning tiles into the art they are with custom framing!

The project

​Our client bought two beautiful tiles in Portugal. She wanted to hang them vertically in her kitchen above a black water cooler. 

The design

​We decided to attach the tiles to a black linen matboard not only to create a stunning contrast to the colourful tiles, but to also pull in the black detail from the kitchen where the piece will hang. Our client has gold fixtures in and around the space so a gold and black iron finish moulding was selected to craft the frame and pull everything together.

For this project we went with a floater-style frame without glass. Recessing the linen backdrop with the tiles into this frame design creates an elegant finish, keeps the tactile experience of the embossed tiles and exposes that tile character that we can't get enough of. ​
