The Venetian mask project

Italy offers so many wonderful things including these hand-made and signed artist masks!

The Goal

Each stunning mask is unique and individually stunning. Our goal was to present them in a cohesive manner while showcasing their individual beauty. ​

The Challenge

Function and form are so important to good design. For this project, the main design challenge was how to build a frame that was deep enough to encompass feathers that spanned 8" in breadth but was aesthetically amazing and on par with the colouring and details of the masks.

The Design

Producing a frame that was boxy and cumbersome just to accommodate the depth was not part of the plan, so our creative team decided on a scalloped moulding along with several other profiles in golds and silvers with subtle details to build this frame. We wanted the masks to breathe within the design. ​

We lined the back where the delicate masks are mounted, and sides of the interior moulding with a soft, cloud-grey suede mat. To create a mid-level layer of richness and to slightly add a break in the depth, we added a dark, wine suede mat border that compliments the masks. ​

The Result

Art Glass finishes the piece off and the result is truly incredible!
