Ever wonder how high to hang your art? Trust me, you’re not alone! Today’s post will hopefully make this task a little less daunting by going over the simple rule on how to ensure your wall décor hangs just right!
So where to start? Believe it or not, measurements should start from the ground up. Grab your measuring tape and starting from the floor measure up until the middle of your art piece hangs at approximately 56-60”. You can opt to hang your piece on the higher side if you have high ceilings or if everyone in your family is on the tall side.
If you’re hanging multiply items, aim to achieve this midpoint height so that it lands in between your two pieces.
What is the reasoning behind this height? Well, you want to be able to see your artwork at eye level. If it’s too high or too low you’ll have to crank your neck at an uncomfortable angle and of course not appreciate your art to its fullest! As well this height achieves a very balanced look on most walls.
What about artwork over a sofa or above a bed? The rule of 57-60” no longer applies. Instead you should use the bottom of the frame that surround the art piece you’re hanging and the top of the furniture item as your guide. The distance between the two should measure 4-8”. Ideally, your art piece should extend about 2/3 of the width of your furniture item. If you don’t have a piece that size you can try a grouping of pieces to achieve the same composition.
Now get hanging!
