A MOM'S GIFT

Children's keepsakes
There are so many fun ways to preserve your children's keepsakes. So for this blog post I wanted to show you a few examples and share some of my memories with you.
I can recall the time when I discovered that my mom had kept my drawings and memorabilia from my childhood. Things I had forgotten but that were so important to me way back then. The pencil case where I learned how to sew my first straight stitch, the drawing of the ‘best house with smoke coming out of the chimney’ ever!
My miniature glass mouse collection that I spent hours dusting and arranging, my dance medals! These things were so prevalent in my child life and in that moment, I realized the weight that these tiny, old pieces had. As time elapsed so did my interest in these items but they still lived on in the heart of me. These pieces represented me. The child I was and the adult I have become.

After that moment of trying to decide whether I was the most talented child or the worst, had passed, I was overwhelmed with appreciation and gratitude that these treasures were not thrown away. Sure some of the glass mice had chipped ears and my drawings were brown and crumpled with age but they were my childhood.

I was instantly brought back, remembering the energy that went into every stroke of art, the feeling of pride I felt in my collections and the praise and hugs that were attached to each of those items. Priceless.

That moment was one of the best gifts I was given by my mom. Now as a parent I have children that bring home their own little treasures and I too want to be able to give them that same gift.
Luckily, there are so many ways to preserve childhood memorabilia. A memory box is a must and individual files organized by school year and school photo is something I love, but for those extra special pieces I like to protect them in extra special ways. With options like shadow boxes, UV glass and museum quality framing I can trust that their little items will be safe and shielded from time. I have no worry that I can pass along their pieces when the kids are older and they’ll look as they did when they were first brought home.

As parents we want to help our children grow into the best possible selves they can be. There are so many ‘firsts’ that bring them to that point and so deserve to be remembered, cherished and rejoiced! Give your kids the gift of these memories and remind them how wonderful they are.
