If you have inherited an old piece of art or scored a treasure at a market it’s not always easy to see how weathered pieces can be wall ready again. This project will show you that it is possible!
These artworks are over 100 years old. Their boards are very fragile with rough edges. One work was cracked through the middle and the other wasn’t perfectly square.
The delicate and particular nature of these old pieces influenced the overall frame design. First and most importantly we had to address the crack through the middle of one of the pieces. To do this we decided to add a floater. This not only creates a beautiful finish but also provided support underneath. We opted for a warm metallic moulding to cover the art’s edges. Using a larger size profile, but keeping with the same moulding on the outer edge of the piece, creates that pleasing aesthetic our eyes love.
The large floater space also was an ideal choice for this smaller work, adding size to the overall piece that will give it extra presence on the wall.
Together they are stunning and behind the scenes they have been salvaged.
