Objects that we love come in all shapes and sizes...
... and so a universal shadow box frame won't always cut it.
These two Oubowson tapestries were in need of a frame redo to protect the fabrics from fading over time. It also allowed an opportunity to change up the overall design and look of the pieces.
The design
For each piece, we had to create a deep moulding to accommodate the depth of the tapestry and its back padding while considering room between the fabric and the glass of the end piece. To do this, we capped a dark blue moulding by Verbec on top of a light blue moulding by Fotiou. As a finishing detail we carried the darker blue to the backside of the piece as well. Each moulding layer adds to the precise depth of the piece making it a perfect fit.
The moulding height also allowed us to introduce another element of detail to the design. We brought in a mat to line the inner sides of the mouldings. This not only creates a seamless finish but brings in a beautiful green clover colour that pulls from the tapestry.
And of course for protection, we floated Art glass over each piece.
We love the fresh design and custom details of these finished pieces and are happy that our client will be able to enjoy these tapestries for many, many years. << NEXT | PREVIOUS >>
