FEATURED PROJECT | THE TRIPTYCH

Le Frame Shoppe Blog | Featured Project | The Triptych
Being a custom picture frame company, we are presented with unique requests that challenge us! This amazing portfolio-styled art piece, purchased at a museum, needed to have both the cover and inside of the triptych visible, while maintaining the integrity of the piece. Let’s get to work!
The cover consisted of two panels that when closed created one image and the inside of the portfolio was the triptych. To meet the client’s needs, we designed a double-sided, custom-hinged frame that recreated the experience of seeing the cover and when opened would show the triptych.

We used Roma moulding for the entire project. To create the double-sided piece we had to fit the mouldings back to back. So that we had enough space in between the two mouldings for the glass and images, we reshaped the inside half of the mouldings using special blades on our saws.

We painted the exposed inside lip of the moulding and then fastened it all together to create three frame ‘sandwiches’. Then we hinged them together so that they opened and closed in the same manner as the original art piece.

Now how to hang this amazing piece! To make sure this item stays safely on the wall without moving, we made our own cleat system that we painted out to match the frame design.

This very specialized custom framing project really embodies what we do. It’s a one-of-a-kind frame with a custom hanging system that can open and close to show two different images that in our line of work is very cool!

Hello! I am a framing manager at a Michael’s and I am looking for a way to build this exact triptych except the back of the center panel is not going to be displayed. I so appreciate this post. We do not have specialized equipment (Michael’s) but I am so hoping to find a way to complete this project without it. Lmk if you have any further advice! Thank you again

Can you make me an identical version of the Bosch Triptych frame except larger, approximately 3'x5''? If so, what would it cost? I've already got the prints and I'll send the exact dimensions if you're open to this project thanks
