This day is one to remember and it was our job to preserve the article with all the details!
In 1969, man walked on the moon and history was made! This original newspaper article of the event was fragile and so memorable! We had to preserve it. The design:
The first step was to carefully cut the page that we were highlighting for the project from the rest of the newspaper. We then set it aside for the time being to focus on the main article. We wanted to keep with a classic look that encompassed the age of the newspaper. We decided on two mats for this piece, one in a cream and another in a charcoal grey. Both of these colours play beautifully with the old print. The first step was to carefully cut the page that we were highlighting for the project from the rest of the newspaper. We then set it aside for the time being to focus on the main article.
Because the newspaper was quite frail we wanted to adhere it to foamcore. The print has tears around the edges, but since they help tell the story and showcase the newspaper's time and value, we cut the foamcore to match the rips. Thus strengthening and preserving its entirety.
We then floated the newspaper over the charcoal mat and used the cream toned mat as an outer detail that pulls the design together.
Of course we could not just toss the rest of the newspaper, so added a sleeve onto the back of the framed piece for it to safely sit.
We love how it turned out!
