Officially trending - everyone is crazy for hygge! People are seeking a healthier, happier lifestyle and are looking to this Danish way of living for pointers on how to discover their hygge and feel oh so good.
There’s no literal English translation for this word. Hygge represents feelings of coziness, comfort, and inspires relaxation. It’s all about curling up and enjoying a sense of calm.
Our surroundings influence our emotions so adding hygge to the home brings us one step closer to serenity. Overall, décor should be minimal, yet interesting. Use natural materials, while adhering to a peaceful color palette. And feel clean, simple and inviting. With hygge encouraging well being our hearts and minds should be filled with warmth. Don’t do away with inspiring paintings; memorabilia or photos of loved ones simply bring them to a level of hygge! Peaceful greys stacked together to form a seamless frame design hug your pieces without being too distracting.
Opt for a subtle tonal difference to add a bit more interest.
The Danes use natural materials and introduce textures into their design. I’ve used it before and will use it again barn wood! One of my favorite moulding looks is so versatile and works amazingly with the hygge style.
Hygge encourages simple indulgences and luxury. I can’t get enough of this rich, inviting moulding!
Leather brings us back to the basics, the root of hygge. This leathery option works so well.
You can always add a little shine to your design. Pairing metallic mouldings with more rustic choices in the same palette achieves your bling while keeping things simple enough to call it hygge.
