We all know that a frame design includes a beautiful frame, but the addition of a mat and how it’s incorporated within your piece can totally change the look of the design as well. Let’s see how different stylistic mat cuts and positioning can influence the overall style of piece.
 
This mat has the shape of an initial cut into it. The photos are peeking through in a playful way that we love for a child’s nursery or bedroom. This is such a great way to display several photos in a small space while maintaining an element of fun.

​Another way to display a mix of photos is with a multi-opening mat. Depending on where the cuts are made within the mat, your photo display can vary in degrees of traditional to more formal looking.

​Let’s turn up the volume on simple lines with a drop-bottom mat! The drop bottom mat means that the bottom width of the mat is slightly wider than the top. This design has a lot of impact while keeping to a clean, more modern look. 

​If you want to give a smaller photo presence on a wall deciding to float mount your photo on a mat might be the way to go. This can add inches to the overall piece while giving your photo that custom look.

​A great way to design for vintage photos and/or a vintage frame is to add a thin line of dark mat to your piece followed by a wider outer mat in off-white. This triple mat design helps create a bridge between the old and new parts of the piece creating unison.
