THE BIG PROJECT

It’s so exciting to be a part of your life and adventures with our custom frames. This project is for a new restaurant and we were thrilled to join the ride! Here is The Big Project.

The Big Project was well… big! This 14 foot long painting is extraordinary in colour and size and we couldn’t wait to get started on a custom frame design!

Being so large, we had to lay the canvas out on the shop floor to take accurate measurements of the canvas and plan out the steps required to create and build the oversized frame.

With a piece this large everything has to be custom built, including the stretcher bars! We custom built reinforced stretcher bars in order to handle the tension created by stretching such a big canvas.

Now on to our custom, oversized floating frame! Moulding lengths are between 9 and 10 feet long. So for this 14 foot piece we had to build special, stylized joins to attach the moulding to accommodate the size of frame. Of course we like to craft seamless designs but with the magnitude of the painting and the limitations in the size of moulding lengths available, we had to get a little creative and turn the challenge of seams that would show where the lengths would meet up into an opportunity for design. We decided to repeat the stylized joins throughout the frame including the shorter sides that didn’t require customizing so that it felt intentional and aesthetically coherent.
