When we say anything can be custom framed we mean it!
We thought we'd have a little fun with this project because... how could we not! This is a piece of the goal post from the NHL New York Rangers' goal and signed by the goalie. Our client also brought in the net that was taken from that particular goal when it was replaced. He wanted these two elements to be incorporated within the same framed presentation.
The design
We wanted both the post and the net to have their own space and moment within the display to shine, but also feel connected. To do this, we decided to sit the post in the middle of the piece and have the net surround it. A faux ice rink that we made out of matting extends behind the entire piece, joining the two elements and adding the iconic hockey colours.
We then reversed cut a deep, white frame to create a pocket for the post to sit in. We used this as our center, which also allowed us to craft a hidden lip to attach the net to for our surrounding design idea.
For the outer frame, we went with a black moulding and hand-painted a fillet to match the red of the post to trim the inside of this frame. The red fillet pulls our eye back to the post tying it all together as well as serving double duty by creating a second hidden lip where we tucked away all the technical work needed to string the net between the inner and outer frames. This was so much fun to work on and we are in love with the results! << NEXT | PREVIOUS >>
