We are excited to present The Murano Glass Project! Pictures do not do this piece justice but trust us, it is beyond!
This piece is inspired by the artwork of Gustav Klimt. For this project, along with beautiful custom framing details in the design, we illuminated this incredible piece of fused and painted Murano glass. As a side note because our team has an immense backyard of knowledge and skill, they advised that the layer of gold is created by placing sheets of real gold leaf between two pieces of glass. The glass is then heated in a kiln at approximately 1800F degrees and as the glass melts from the increased temperature, the gold leaf gently tears and separates. This creates that crackled background. You can also see the lines where the edges of the gold leaf was placed. Once cooled down, the glass is removed from the kiln and then painted with enamels. Thank you team - they always amaze us with their understanding of materials and expertise!
To create an ideal aesthetic and spacing around the artwork we used six different fabric matboards for this project, layering them to achieve our design. We kept the main tones moody to contrast with the artwork exposing just a few thin gold mats to highlight the piece. To incorporate further interest we selected a textured moulding by Roma for the frame.
We integrated LED lights into the frame to showcase and reflect off of this artwork. This brought the piece to the next level!
