Time, thought, memories and surprise...
The best kind of ingredients for the perfect custom framing gift.
Our client came to us with a very special gift idea for his wife. We were to create a memorial of her father, who emigrated from Ukraine to Canada as a young man, using a series of items. The drawings were done by her father many years ago. Half of one of the drawings was on the opposite side of the paper to her favourite sketches. Being able to reclaim that drawing from the opposite side of the paper was a challenge, but having the most cherished images on display was the goal. Our client worked directly with a professional conservator in Ottawa to make a transfer of the actual image and to repair the frayed edges of the original artworks. The completed result is nothing short of spectacular. We could not even tell!
Before the works were sent to the conservator, we created a frame design in secret. We've had the privilege of working with this couple over the years so we were familiar with their style.
We used a beautifully textured moulding by Omega. The details enhance the structures of the drawings and its champagne tone accents the aged paper, while softly contrasting with the green matting. We selected this colour of matting to pull from the linework of the drawings done in graphite, which subtly leans toward green.
All materials in this project are acid free with museum grade mats to protect these priceless items. We used Art Glass for clarity and to eliminate reflections.
The piece looks incredible and the surprise was impeccable! << NEXT | PREVIOUS >>
