Seasons end and new ones begin. We look ahead to new adventures and the changes that have taken place around and within us, but it’s important to remember all that we’ve been through up until this point. Every struggle, victory, sorrow or celebration have brought us to today and shaped us into the person we are now. Reflecting and remembering keep the journey real and reminds us of all that we are capable of. The University Project represents our client’s journey to achieving a doctorate.
School days bring more than just the education within the brick and mortar walls. You learn to reach for new limits and set higher goals with every triumph! Our client brought in his collection of ties, rings and other keepsakes from the various universities he graduated from on his way to achieving a doctorate from USC.

Because each tie and ring represents a higher level of achievement they were placed in ascending order. We presented both the ties and rings in one frame, but decided to separate them into distinct groups. To do this, we recessed two openings in the mat.

We knotted the ties as if they were being worn to bring an element of “life” into the piece, ensuring that each tie was the same length for a cleaner look. These were fastened and recessed to the bottom of the shadow box that we crafted.

With the rings being much smaller in size than the ties, we needed to create balance and figure out a way to add some substance to how they were displayed. We backed the USC license plate holder with red velvet to create a “frame within a frame” look. We then embedded the rings into this opening and floated the whole thing in the upper mat cut. Now the rings sit strong alongside the ties!

We added filets to each opening for an elegant touch and used fabric mats. Naturally we protected this amazing achievement with art glass.
