As you know, all month long we’re talking about something that is near and dear to my heart - organization! Next up on our “think outside the frame” discussions are trinkets or tiny collectibles.
When I was little I used to have a miniature glass mouse collection that my grandmother started for me. Collections like this exist in most households whether it is of toy cars, miniature dolls, travel souvenirs or even trophies. Having a set spot to not only showcase these items, but as well keep them organized is a very good thing.
There are a lot of standard shelves out there, but finding the right one, with the right height, width, style and so on can be tricky. Custom just makes it easier to create exactly what you have in mind for the needs of your collection. These shelves within frames work so well!
We selected a clean white frame so that the colourful collections we built them for would stand out. We decided to use glass for the shelving again to keep the focus on the collection and these amazing custom backdrops!

The backdrop for the car collection frame is actually wrapping paper! We had some left over black and white check paper that reminded us of a car race – ideal for this piece! Plus as an added bonus it used the tail end of the wrapping paper roll that tends to take up space but never actually gets used!
For the Shopkin collection, we crafted a fun striped background out of matting. With so many matting colours you can really get creative with colour and style!
These functional pieces turn your collections into art. So go ahead and fill up your walls with what you love, make your space beautiful at the same time and yes keep those collections organized! Win-win-win in my books!
