Tips for postcard decor

Postcards are amazing! 

Whether they be cool vintage finds or easy grab and go memories from a recent trip they are loaded with sentiment and beautiful imagery, which is why we love framing them up and having them add another layer to your home decor. Here are some tips for incorporating postcards into your space.

The travel wall:

We all love a good gallery wall and we can't get enough of those incredible moments from our travels, so why not combine the two and create a travel wall using postcards!

To get started, on your next trip pick up a few postcards from some of the key spots you've visited or landscapes that you want to relive forever. Choose clean lines for your frame design so that you can easily create a similar aesthetic for new postcards added to your wall from future vacations. Your first grouping of framed postcards should be hung in the center of the wall. In this way, as you collect postcards on upcoming trips you can easily hang your additional framed cards as a new line either above or below your existing grouped postcards. Feel free to extend as high to the ceiling and as low to the floor as you want or go ahead and create a secondary travel wall! This makes a welcoming entry for guests or can brighten a dark hallway.

Vintage finds:

​Vintage details often make a space feel like a home. They help create little unexpected moments that are unique and inviting. Vintage postcards are a great way to achieve just this.

The weathered colours and worn edges of a vintage postcard can bring character and texture to your walls when framed to create the perfect vignette. Incorporate a single card for a subtle yet impactful choice hung in a corner, or propped up on a kitchen shelf. We also love the idea of using framed vintage postcards as a layering detail in front of a larger piece on a mantle.

If you rather add more of a statement, combine a few vintage postcards in an eclectic array of frame designs that have similar tones for a pulled together look.

Sometimes we just need a bit of colour to liven up a space. Postcards are inexpensive and come in many styles, images and colours making them an ideal choice to add personality to your home. Whether you decide to add one or one hundred postcards, you can easily control the amount of colour and find a balance that's right for your space. ​
