This age-old question is not an easy one to answer. Sometimes keeping it simple is best and other times a work demands much, much more! In this blog we're going to talk about when to use simple frame design.
First off, what is simple frame design? It usually consists of a calming, uncomplicated aesthetic. And often the go-to look pulls from the basics with a classic black and white pairing. This neutral combo is a clean-lined black moulding (wood is a great option) and a crisp white mat. When should this frame design be applied? There are many times when a black moulding and white mat can be used in frame design, but one of our favourites is to showcase photography. Whether it is a dynamic city street scene or up close shots of a little dog, the different colours and textures are all complimented by a simple frame design. This neutral look doesn't compete with the content of the photos and should a photograph go in a grouping, the consistent design pulls them all together.
Which brings us to gallery walls. When in doubt a gallery wall done in black and white is effortless and timeless. Your different images, taken at different times and places, will feel like a collection that belongs together.
