Shadowboxes are the perfect medium to showcase a collective display of memories.
From photographs to special objects they help our clients remember events, places and people.
For this project, we were tasked with crafting three identical shadowboxes complete with matching sets of photographs, medals and custom plates to commemorate our client's father.
The Design
The placement of items within a frame are important when considering aesthetic and of course content. For this project, we staked the items with the photograph as the first item leading down to the medals and finally the plate creating a natural balance to the piece.
We decided on classic, antique tones for this project so selected a beautiful weathered silver and black moulding by Roma Moulding to build our shadowbox. The main outer mat is in a warm, complimentary beige. We wanted the eye to be drawn toward the items of the piece so used a black inner mat that we cut in a reverse bevel to line the photograph, medals and plate. As an extra focus on detail, we recessed the medals into the frame onto a black fabric mat background, creating a mini shadowbox within the larger shadowbox of this piece. We finished it off with art glass.
