Our skilled team turns your art into both a functional and aesthetically pleasing piece in no time! The Piano Hinge Project was one of those specialty jobs that did just that.
This project was built around a photo of our client’s father, grandfather and a ring.
Our mission was to create a joining tabletop frame with a way to secretly store our client’s grandfather’s ring in the framing design. We’ve had to create a few hidden pockets in our time as custom framers so off to get creative we went.
To ensure the piece looks fantastic, the hinge choice was important to the overall end result. After finding the right style of hinge, we had to consider how best to craft our frames so that they would stand independently on a desktop while being forever joined... and of course figure out how to store the ring within the piece. Our team hand-sewed a pouch from canvas and placed it on the backside of the piece. We added in a ribbon within the pouch to tie the ring to. This would ensure that if the ring did get ‘fumbled’ out of the pouch, it wouldn’t role very far.
We decided on moulding and filets by Larson-Juhl to craft our frames from. The gold fillet adds such importance to the pictures against the soft ivory frames and our hinge choice blends beautifully.
The pictures, memento and memories are unified in this design and we got to do this.
