The Plate Project is a great example of how keepsakes can be turned into a statement piece in line with today's decor.
Our client came in with a plate collection that belonged to her parents. They are so much more than 'just' plates though; they are filled with cherished memories of her parents' home, which is about to be sold.
Our job was to preserve these sentimental objects and as well turn them into a feature for her dining room by transforming the traditional vibe of the plates into a more contemporary aesthetic.
We decided to float the plates above a dark grey fabric matboard. This colour provides the right 'edge' as well as pulls from the tone in the plates. We crafted our frame using two mouldings. The inside piece takes a nod to the past with an antiqued-gold finish. The outside moulding follows a more modern style with a straight cut black that has a wood-tone side edge. Art glass floats above the entire design for added protection.
The result is amazing and showcases the beauty in combining old and new. These plates are ready for more memories!
