Specialized projects require special treatment and a team of experts that know how to be creative while tackling functional requirements. Today on the blog we’re going over the details of The Violin Project, complete with a custom-built triple stacked frame and hand-carved and painted details that make this piece a total “wow”!
The Violin Project was one of those projects that really tested our abilities. Our artisans had an amazing item to work with and a specific vision that demanded custom, technical skills. This precious violin was reconstructed for display purposes. An artist painted a textured black backdrop for the violin to be mounted on while the hardware to keep the violin in place was specific to the item.
The depth of the violin dictated the size of the frame that we constructed by stacking 3 custom shadow boxes. This not only housed the item perfectly but also created a beautiful ribbed pattern when looking at the piece from the side.
Normally, the inside of a frame is lined with matting but to match the stunning backdrop of the violin we selected the same black mat colour and painted the inner panels so that the entire inside of the piece looked seamless.
The violin’s bow needed to be included in the display. In order to get it to sit correctly while keeping aesthetics in mind, our incredible team hand-carved and painted an attachment to hold it in place! They constantly impress me!
Art glass was an obvious choice to finish it off.
This piece weighed a ton when finished! Standard picture hangers would just not do the trick so we added 2 strap hangers directly in the backing to support the weight of the entire piece when hung.
