The Wooden Tile Project is all about texture, tone and styles!
These two sets of hand-painted wooden tiles received a contemporary update through custom framing, but the design is still soft enough to work in a cottage setting.
To achieve this dual-style sense, we played with texture and colour. By choosing elements with a natural base in a more contemporary tone, we were able to provide that modern look while still feeling cozy.
We went with charcoals and slate greys for this piece. A fabric mat acted as the backing to the tiles for a nice contrast to the wood. To give the tiles a dynamic look we floated them above the backing mat using foam core spacers. Keeping with that contemporary-cottage design we selected a charcoal-stained moulding from Fotiou Moulding in a natural profile to craft our frame. As a finishing touch we added a hidden pouch to the back of the piece that contained photos and print outs of the bird types on all the tiles that were now covered by the framing. This will act as any easy access legend for our clients! << NEXT| PREVIOUS >>
